New libraries for new needs: architecture and the challenges of
technology - 1990-2000
[Nuove biblioteche per nuovi bisogni:
l'architettura di fronte alle sfide della tecnologia (1990-2000)],
October 15-16, 2002
The arrival of new technology and electronic format deeply changed the
context where libraries work. The presence of computer, the data base
and the electronic publications, Internet and its services meant a
clear-cut division between a "before" and an "after". A so deep change
asks for new architectural solutions for flexible libraries which should
be able to adapt themselves to a technology in a very fast progress and
with unforeseeable consequences. These consequences are charming for the
users to whom we devote more and more our best attention. This
conference is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural
Affairs and aims to be an occasion for an exam for the libraries built
in Europe from 1990 to 2000 in order to understand how each of them
solved the problem of the relationship with new technologies in the
context of architectural projecting works. Some experts will talk about
the internal solutions and the furnishings for the libraries, too.
On the occasion of this conference, a poster session entitled
"Architecture and furnishings in the libraries" [Architettura e interni
nelle biblioteche]will be prepared by the libraries that will agree to
this proposal.
For the international conference a specific folder and a brochure will
be prepared.

The insertion of the logo on the folder, brochure, web page of this
conference, Conference proceedings (later realised) and the choice of
inserting advertising materials in the folder and having the addresses
of the participants to the conference (according to the law of the
treatment of personal information)

"Bibliocom 2002 awards"
This year AIB inaugurates Bibliocom awards: prizes for the libraries and
their promoters within the international campaign @your library promoted
by IFLA and traduced for the Italian edition @lla tua biblioteca
For the current year, the prizes will be divided into four sections and
they will awarded by a jury composed by representatives of the libraries
and of the world of culture. The awards ceremony will take place at the
end of Bibliocom 2002 opening day, on October 15, 2002 in the morning.
The Bibliocom 2002 awards are the following:
1 - BIBLIOTECHE IN VETRINA @lla tua biblioteca [Libraries on show @ your
library]:
a prize to the Italian organization, both public and private, that
opened the best library in the period 1990-2000. For this section the
project of the library and a photographic documentation are required.
2 - BIBLIO & TECNOLOGIA @lla tua biblioteca [Biblio & technology @ your
library]:
a prize to the Italian library (or libraries) that realised fthe best
technological innovations in the context of customer care and system
service. For this section a report and a documentation on the created
services are required.
3 - BIBLIO & EDUCAZIONE @lla tua biblioteca [Biblio & education @ your
library]:
a prize to the Italian library (or libraries) that realised the best
services for learning in school or university. For this section a report
and a documentation on the created services are required.
4 - NESSUNO ESCLUSO @lla tua biblioteca [No one out @ your library]:
a prize to the Italian library (or libraries) that realised the best
services to disadvantaged users. For this section a report and a
documentation on the created services are required.
The sponsorship for every prize includes:
1) The refund of the plate of honour (max EURO 200 + VAT)
that will be prepared by AIB and will have the logo of the sponsor too.
2) The refund of the travel expenses for a representative of the winning
library for the collection of the prize.This refund will be given
directly to the representative.
3) An amount of EURO 1,000 at least to be given to the winning library
as supplying of products and services.
