letter of the AIB president to the exhibitors
I would like first of all to thank all those who participated in the
first edition of Bibliocom which was held in the Palazzo dei Congressi
of EUR from 3rd to 5th October 2001.
After two years of experiments, AIB has decided to consolidate the
BIBLIOCOM annual event in Rome in the month of October to make it a
fundamental appointment for the operators, professional persons, firms,
public and private bodies, professional associations who operate in the
sector of libraries, archives and museums, information and documentation
services, supply of technology, furnishings, constructions, in
publishing and in the cultural industry, in didactic technology, data
bases and knowledge management.
We have the high patronage of the President of the Italian Republic,
the support and participation of various Ministries among which that of
Education, of Cultural Heritage and Activity, the sponsorship of the
Region, the Province and the Municipality, and the support of the
International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
(IFLA).
AIB will convene as usual its annual Congress and General Assembly in
the days and in the venue of BIBLIOCOM.
The flattering results of the first two editions will certainly be
exceeded in the next edition for which various companies of the sector
have already announced that they will be bringing large innovations in
the field of supplies and services and that they will themselves be
promoting events within the event. This confirms that BIBLIOCOM is the
most important exhibition-convention of the sector in Italy.
In this regard I would like to point out that, as in the previous
edition, apart from the traditional offers present in the price list,
there will also be the figure of the Official sponsor of the
exhibition.
This role is reserved each year to no more than three firms, each of
which operating in a different commodity sector. I would therefore like
to invite the firms interested to contact us in early May, while
reminding them that the programme for Bibliocom 2002, of which a draft
copy is already available, will be officially presented before the end
of the same month.
In the attached dossier you will find a brief summary of the 2001
edition and some initial information on the programme of the 2002
edition. The latter will have some particular characteristics such as
convention and scientific activity of great interest, part of which will
be organized and promoted by the firms and competitors who so request.
Among the innovations, there will be the presence of a stand dedicated
to the Library of Alexandria of Egypt, which is to be inaugurated soon
and the Bibliocom awards for the libraries and their promoters within
the campaign @your library promoted by IFLA.
Our exhibition is thus confirmed as the most important Italian
appointment of the sector and one of the most significant in Europe,
characterized by the repositioning of the role of the partner firms and
by the opening to the world of the professions of related sectors
(schools, archives, museums, Web, etc.).
I wish to thank you for the confidence that you have shown to us thus
far and I am sure that we will be able to travel far together.
I obviously want also to thank the new friends who decide to subscribe
to our initiatives and I hope that they find their participation
interesting and profitable.
As of this year the Italian Library Association (AIB) has opened an
independent sector for the organization of the Bibliocom-Bibliotexpo.
